If you watched the previews for the next episode of Basketball Wives LA then you saw Jackie Christie cry when she found out that her husband had accepted a job coaching. Her husband is former NBA player, Doug Christie, but it doesn’t look like he accepted that coaching position. The two parties were most likely unable to agree on a contract, a common scenario in these situations.
The tweets below show a fan of the series asking the former basketball player if he would actually be coaching. Christie explains that he’ll continue to work as a sports analyst. As a former player he’s a great analyst. He is very hard on his former team, the Sacramento Kings which can be very entertaining.
Doug Christie Coach
When Jackie’s not forcing herself into Angel Love’s drama, she’s being a great wife. It was interesting to hear Brandi Maxiell analyze Jackie. On the last episode they went on a double date. Jackie gave great advice to Brandi and her husband, former NBA basketball player, Jason Maxiell.
Brandi explains that Jackie is a completely different person when her husband is around. When Jackie is around the females on the show she tends to have fun but when she’s around her husband she is very serious. Brandi loved her serious side and says that she wants to maintain a relationship with Jackie.
Bustle explains that Empire feels like a Hustle & Flow sequel. Hustle & Flow is a 2005 movie that starred Empire‘s Terrence Howard as a Memphis drug dealer with dreams to become a rapper. In the film, Howard’s character, DJay, is also a pimp and he’s not happy with his life. Taraji P. Henson plays Shug, DJay’s love interest.
According to Billboard a trailer was recently released promoting Empire‘s third season which premieres on September 21, 2016. The trailer showed Cookie explaining to Lucious that they build their family and their family is strong. This article will analyze the similarities between the movie and the television show.
Hustle and Flow Empire Connection
Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson
Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson have undeniable chemistry with each other. In the “Et Tu, Brute?” episode of Empire, Lucious and Cookie’s son, Hakeem, votes against Lucious and he is removed as CEO of the company. As a result, Lucious decides to relieve his stress by shooting his gun in his office, destroying his beautiful home.
Lucious Cookie Lyon Hug
Cookie enters the room and explains to Lucious that he has to clam down. She wipes his tears and they share a passionate hug. The word passionate doesn’t quite give the scene justice. Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson have the ability to make viewers believe that they are actually in a relationship off-screen.
Lucious and Cookie’s love for each other reminds us of DJay and Shug’s romance in Hustle & Flow. Initially, DJay treats Shug like a pimp must treat his woman. He gains control of her mind and is able to manipulate her from there. then, Shug is featured on the song “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” which helps DJay get closer to his goal of becoming a rapper. This is similar to the way that Cookie helped Lucious become a music mogul.
Cookie spends 17 years behind bars so that Lucious could live his dream. She sells drugs and Lucious is able to use the money to start the record label. The couple’s three sons also play a major role in the company’s success. Shug also sacrificed her life by using her body to earn money for DJay. The money helps him accomplish his goal to become a rapper. As a result, Shug becomes pregnant yet DJay is most likely not the father.
Cookie Lyon Compared To Shug
Cookie Lyon is everyone’s favorite character on Empire. She has seen it all. Flashbacks which show her in prison make you feel sorry for her. Shug is also a wounded character that you feel sorry for. Seeing DJay use Shug makes you wish that she had access to better opportunities yet she is a product of her environment.
Loyalty is a them that we see in both Cookie and Shug. Cookie knows that Lucious killed her cousin, Bunkie, yet she loves him. When Lucious marries Anika it breaks Cookie’s heart proving how much Cookie still loved him. Shug is vulnerable and must be loyal to DJay similar to the loyalty that Cookie has for Lucious.
International Business Times reports that the Les Twins appeared on The Rap Game to help the contestants before the challenge was revealed. Dancing and rapping are two very different skills as the episode proved. We’re so used to seeing the young emcees delivering lyrics so it was interesting to see them dance.
According to Ask Kissy rapper Lil Poopy from the show recently landed a Sony record deal. That’s great news for the show’s current contestants. Jayla Marie is one of our favorite cast members. Viewers often wonder about her family so we wanted to share the following images of her parents:
Jayla Marie Family The Rap Game
The episode also featured the group We Are Toonz. The contestants got to shoot a music video. One aspect of the show that I love is the way that it teaches the cast members that the music business is a full time job. It’s easy to see famous rappers on television and jump to the conclusion that you want their life.
The hard work that the rappers had to put in is often disregarded. Kanye West provides one of the best examples. He is currently performing on flying stages but if you go back and listen to The College Dropout you’ll understand just how much work he had to put in. As he gained success he just kept working harder.
Today reports that Melissa Ann McCarthy turned 46-years-old on Friday, August 26, 2016! We love the actress for encouraging us to accept ourselves for who we are. It’s all about being unapologetic about yourself and the Melissa often speaks on the issue. Her confidence can intimidate some people causing them to create false rumors about her.
According to In StyleGhostbusters was one of the funniest roles of her career. Her co-star in the film, Leslie Jones, is one person that can definitely use a shot of her confidence right now. She has experienced racism and her phone was recently hacked. As a result, nude images of the actress were leaked online.
Melissa McCarthy, Transgender?
Similar to Leslie, Melissa has recently been called a man. Melissa McCarthy is not transgender. She was born a female and is still a female. Similar to the recent rumor that she was dead, the rumor that she was born a man is not true.
The actress teaches us that what we think about ourselves is more important than what others think about us. Everyone has an opinion but when you’re confident your opinion about yourself is all that matters. Always act like you’re wearing an invisible crown and don’t let what other people think about you phase you!
Scroll to the Snapcode for Tammy Rivera’s Snapchat name!
If there’s one scene of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta that I’ll never forget it’s the scene where Tammy Rivera starts crying as she attempts to tell her friends that her and Waka Flocka Flame had broken up. VH1 reports that Mrs. Flocka Flame recently had Walmart crying. The reality star pointed out that a black doll was three times more expensive than its white counterpart leading Walmart to slash the price of the black doll.
According to Hello Beautiful Tammy and Waka are finally making things work. The couple brought Tammy’s daughter with them on a trip to Jamaica and Rivera shared numerous beautiful images from the vacation. Make sure you’re following all of her social media accounts.
The adorable couple recently visited The Breakfast Club where Rivera had no shame about the fact that her husband had cheated on her. She keeps it real and that’s what we love about her. Waka explains that his background didn’t exactly prepare him to maintain a committed relationship.
Many people forget that Waka Flocka started out as Gucci Mane’s “bodyguard.” He grew up with Gucci and is still somewhat close to the rapper. Before meeting Tammy, Waka’s lifestyle with Gucci was much different. They’ve come a very long way and we hope they stay together forever!
Scroll to the Snapcode for Odell Beckham Jr.’s Snapchat name!
Love B. Scott reports that New York Giants’ wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. used Instagram to post a video of himself singing Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing.” That wouldn’t have been a problem if he wasn’t in a hot tub with his teammate, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie while singing the song. First you only see Odell and then Dominique pops up from below the surface of the water!
According to Hollywood Life he loves the attention. Make sure you’re following all of the wide receiver’s social media accounts.
Odell Beckham Jr.’s Snapchat name is Mr_Hotspot. It is not his personal Snapchat account but he often appears in the content. The actual owner of the account is his roommate:

This is why athletes like LeBron James don’t use social media at certain points of the season. We love the fact that he’s having fun but this is his job and he should act more professional. He’s definitely distracting his teammates who most likely find it difficult to focus when he’s constantly posting content like this.
While we don’t mind if the Louisiana native is gay we do have a problem with him disrespecting the game of football. It’s his craft and although he’s talented, he should take preseason more seriously and stop worrying about social media.
Hip Hop Wired explains that rapper, Yung Joc got a perm for a movie role. That didn’t keep people from roasting him on social media. Similar to Lucious Lyon, Joc got that slick back perm. TMZ reports that rapper, William Leonard Roberts II aka Rick Ross, let Drake know that he’s more than willing to go to war. The Miami emcee was on the “Drink Champs” podcast where he made it clear that the Toronto rapper does not intimidate him. Rozay has finally stepped up. Drake’s big homie, J Prince, was in Philadelphia when Drizzy dissed Meek Mill.
J Prince ensured that his little homie Drake was protected and it looks like Rick Ross is finally doing the same for Meek Mill. According to Hip Hop Early Rozay made an explicit attack on Drizzy, as he discussed the beef with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. Rappers have never walked on eggshells but Drizzy and Eminem were both careful not to hurt each other’s feelings so we’re happy that Rozay wasn’t afraid to speak on the situation.
Rick Ross Threatens Drake
On August 30-31 Drake and Future will be in Miami for their Summer Sixteen Tour. Rozay’s timing couldn’t have been better. The Port of Miami emcee set a perfect stage, daring the Toronto rapper to respond to his comments. Both rappers are at a point in their careers where their fans are getting sick and tired of the same old songs.
When Jay-Z and Nas reached a point in their careers where their fans were getting bored, they used each other to take things to the next level and keep people entertained. While Aubrey was not willing to battle Eminem, do you think he’ll throw some shots at Rozay in Miami?
BET reports that Jasiel Amon Robinson aka Yung Joc premiered his new hairstyle last night and the memes haven’t stopped since. He’s a marketing genius if you ask us. Who was thinking about the rapper before this. We guess that time he spent with Diddy on Bad Boy is paying off. Momma Dee has spoken out, defending the rapper’s new perm.
If you watched the last season of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta then you remember that Momma Dee and Yung Joc worked together to create her song, “In That Order.” The Shade Room posted a picture of the rapper with her perm and social media hasn’t been the same since:

According to TV One Black Twitter has not stopped roasting the rapper since the image was shared. We’re hoping that he chose the style for a music video or an acting gig.
In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, rapper, Snoop Dogg explains how much he loves it when memes are created which make fun of the Long Beach rapper. He warns people not to get in their feelings when he retaliates and we hope that Joc has the same outlook. Here are some of our favorite Yung Joc new hairstyle, perm memes:
They say families that eat together stay together and the Smollett family is living proof. The New York Post explains that the Food Network’s six-part series, “Smollett Eats” features the six Smollett siblings: Jussie, Jurnee, Jake, Jocqui, Jazz and Jojo. The last timethey all appeared on a television show together was from 1994-95 in the ABC sitcom On Our Own.
According to Yahoo the show will feature each member of the family dishing up their favorite recipes while providing viewers with a glimpse of their family life. At a time when reality television is dominating the industry, we couldn’t have asked for a better series.
The Smollett Family Show
This was a very smart move for Jussie aka Jamal Lyon. His career is taking off which limits how much time he’s able to spend with his family. So him and his siblings create a show that enables them to spend more time together as a family. He’s not only a musical genius, him and his siblings are some of the smartest, most strategic people on the planet.
Check out the show on Saturdays 12:30/11:30 C on the Food Network. Here’s the schedule for the show’s first season:
