The pic below shows Bill Russell giving a camera guy the middle finger.  The NBA legend is sitting next to former NBA star, Chauncey Billups.  Russell is probably giving the camera guy the middle finger because he’s the most disrespected NBA star of all-time.  People disregard Russell’s entire career because of the era he played in.

Bill Russell Won 11 Championship Rings

Russell is a 5-time MVP, 4-time rebounding champion and 11-time NBA Champion.  Michael Jordan has 6 rings, Kobe Bryant won 5 and LeBron James has 3.  Russell has the same amount of championship rings that Jordan and Bryant have combined.  Russell earned his 11 championship rings in 13 seasons.

Two of Russell’s championships were won when he was Boston’s player-coach.  In 1966, the NBA superstar replaced Red Auerbach and became the first black head coach in the league.  Harry Edward “Buddy” Jeannette was the first player-coach to win a championship.  In 1968, Russell became the second play-coach to win the championship.

The more we know about the past, the better prepared we will be for the future.  We disrespect Russell because we refuse to research his past.  All the players we include in the GOAT debate have accomplished greatness within the last few years.  Legends like Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar do’t receive the respect they deserve.
