Actress, Dawn-Lyen Gardner plays Charley Bordelon on Queen Sugar. She was born in Los Angeles, California and started acting when she was only 9-years-old. If she looks familiar it’s because she recently appeared in Luke Cage as Megan McLaren. She attended the Juilliard School and began acting on stage after graduating.
At the beginning of her career, Gardner appeared in several commercial spots and in 1994 she landed a role as Ronnie in the action TV series Viper. She continued to work hard, earning her guest roles on ER and The Sinbad Show. In 2012, she made guest-voice appearances in four episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as Steela Gerrera.

In episode 9 of the first season, “Next To Nothing” Charley, Ralph Angel and Remy are inspecting the farm after the hurricane when they find two dead bodies. They are two migrant workers. It was very difficult not to feel empathy for the workers. Migrant workers are generally paid in cash, so someone robbed and murdered them.
Charley doesn’t know the names of the workers and the deputy is suspicious about why they were working instead of taking shelter. In the emotional video below, Nova attempts to console her sister. Charley reveals that she was the person that leaked her husband’s rape victim’s name to the press.
