Gabrielle Union Blames 50 Cent For Being Mary Jane Cancellation

In the Instagram video below, Gabrielle Union blames 50 Cent for Being Mary Jane being cancelled. Last month, BET announced that the hit series would end after four short seasons, leaving fans confused.  Viewership of the series has decreased since the first season, but Being Mary Jane was a landmark show for African American women.

How Much Power Does 50 Cent Have At BET?

50 Cent’s hit series on Starz, Power has forced television networks to put some respect on the rapper’s name.  Power laid the foundation for 50’s new BET series, 50 Central but did BET give the rapper too much power? When 50 announced that he was working with BET it was clear that he had big plans with the network.  He made several Instagram posts, bragging about his BET takeover.

During an interview with The Breakfast Club 50 explained that he had plans to get Irv Gotti’s show, Tales cancelled.  Gotti claims that 50 doesn’t have enough power to get Tales cancelled so maybe BET was smart about how much control they gave 50.

Being Mary Jane was one of BET’s only dramas and it was very entertaining.  While The Quad is a great series, it doesn’t appeal to everyone.  Successful black TV shows are rare so the last thing BET should be doing is cancelling one of the most popular black TV shows on air.
