Is Jamal leaving Empire? In the previews for episode 6 of the show’s third season, “Chimes At Midnight” we see Jamal Lyon unconscious with D-Major (Tobias Truvillion) trying to wake him up.  Rest assured Empire fans, Jamal does not die in the episode.  The talented singer has been mixing pills and alcohol and he finally learns his lesson.

Jamal ends up in a love triangle with D-Major and Philip (Juan Antonio), the military veteran who runs Jamal’s PTSD support group.  D-Major spends a night with Jamal and the previews reveal that he’s unable to wake him up.  Jamal is still recovering from being shot by Freda Gatz but he’s abusing his medication by taking his pills with alcohol.

Empire is in its third season and Jussie Smollett is the show’s breakout star.  While everyone loves Cookie, Taraji P. Henson is an experienced actress while Jussie is just getting started.  Empire‘s music is a critical part of its success therefore Fox wouldn’t let the show’s writers kill off characters like Jamal or Hakeem.
