Kerrion Franklin’s biological mother, Shawn Ewing, broke her silence for the first time since the scandal broke involving her son and his father, Kirk Franklin. According to MadameNoire, Ewing’s response to the scandal was similar to Franklin’s response, both declaring their love for Kerrion and explaining that he was not abandoned.
Shawn Ewing Defends Kirk Franklin
Ewing appeared on The Heart Beat podcast and was interviewed by her co-worker, Ericka Fusilier English. Hollywood Unlocked explains that Ewing defended Kirk explaining that as parents, her and Franklin tried to work through Kerrion’s issues to try to make him a productive citizen.

Shawn Ewing Early Life
During the interview, Shawn Ewing explains that her and Kirk experienced challenges as teen parents. In the video below, Kirk Franklin explains that he was 17-years-old when he got Ewing pregnant. Kirk and Shawn welcomed Kerrion in 1988.
The screenshot below is from Kirk Franklin’s book Church Boy which was published in 1998. Franklin explains that he met Ewing when he was in the tenth grade and was attracted to her because she reminded him of his biological mother. Franklin was raised by his aunt after being abandoned by his mother.

Career
According to Ewing’s LinkedIn page, she attended Dallas Baptist University from 1999 to 2004 and in 2005 she started working Volunteers of America. Ewing has worked at Volunteers of America for more than 16 years and is now a Corporate Engagement and Volunteer Manager.
During her interview with The Heart Beat, Ewing explains that she also worked at The Women’s Center in Tarrant County for 6 years.

Kerrion Franklin Is In “No Rush To Tell The Media Lies”
Kerrion shared the following video explaining that he’s in no rush to tell the media lies. He reveals that numerous media outlets have been reaching out to him but Kerrion makes it clear that he’s moving at his own pace. He declares that he will tell the world his story and then get back to his creativity and career.
