Just when you think summer couldn’t get any better, Empire Season 3 makes some stunning announcements: First, Season 3 will premiere on Sept. 21, 2016. Second, the legendary Mariah Carey will be joining Empire Season 3 and this time, this is not a drill. This isn’t like those unfulfilled rumors last year, which never came true. Finally, the pop diva has a character set and everything.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Carey will guest star and perform on Empire as Kitty, a pop megastar who is collaborating with Jamal (Jussie Smollett) and she helps him reach an emotional/musical breakthrough. Because she’s Mariah Carey, ahem, Kitty.
Taraji P. Henson had many nice things to say about the pop diva to E! Online. “She was great. She’s fabulous, she’s beautiful to look at,” Henson said. “Wish I could wear a leotard like that…What Mariah brings to the music industry, she brought to the show. I’m grateful she spent time with us.”
She joins other Season 3 guest stars like Taye Diggs, Sierra McClain, French Montana and Birdman. Are you counting the days until Season 3’s premiere? Because I am.
Empire isn’t Carey’s only TV appearance coming up. According to the Chicago Tribune, she was at the Summer TCA media tour to promote her new E! reality series Mariah’s World.
