A Camera Man Followed Melissa For 7 Years
The first season of My 600 lb Life was filmed from 2004 to 2011. Melissa had gastric bypass surgery in 2004 and she was followed by a camera man until 2011. She lost more than 500 pounds on Dr. Younan Nowzaradan’s diet and she continues to follow his advice.
The series has come a long way since 2004. They now take much less time to film each season and patients are only followed for one year.
Melissa Morris On Good Morning America
Melissa has played a major role in the success of My 600 lb Life. After being followed around for seven years, she appeared on Good Morning America to promote the series and discuss her weight loss. In a very emotional scene, Melissa is in a grocery store and someone insults about her weight.
Melissa’s episode of My 600 lb Life reminds us that fat-shaming is wrong. Morris broke down after the rude comment was made and explained that she wanted to fall into a deep hole.
Melissa’s Husband Chris Schackart
Melissa’s husband, Chris Schackart made an appearance on Good Morning America and he was seen during her episode of My 600 lb Life. Chris and Melissa met in 1997. He explains that she wouldn’t tell him how much she weighed but he didn’t care. Chris knew Melissa was the one.
