In the issue, Negan visits Alexandria where he is approached by Spencer. He tells Negan that Rick should be killed because he doesn’t have what it takes to be a leader.
Similar to the television series, Rick is on a supply run, when Spencer sees Negan. Spencer airs Rick out. Negan hates whining and that’s exactly what he hears when Spencer starts voicing his feelings about Rick. Spencer tells Negan how Rick ruined things because of his poor leadership skills. He describes Rick as a maniac.

Spencer tells Negan that his father was an effective leader and he’s his son therefore he would be an effective leader. Negan isn’t feeling Spencer’s tactics. He doesn’t like cowards and that’s exactly how he categorizes Spencer since Rick is away when Spencer decides to call him out. Unlike Spencer, Negan isn’t afraid to call people out face-to-face.
Negan tells Spencer that he is gutless but then proves otherwise by stabbing him and leaving his guts on the ground.
