NPR reports that Speedo has cancelled its sponsorship with Ryan Steven Lochte. For those unfamiliar with the story, the swimmer competed in the men’s 200-meter finale at the Summer Olympics in Rio on August 11, 2016. A few days later, he told the world that he had been robbed at gunpoint a local gas station, which was untrue.
According to CNN Lochte and other swimmers actually vandalized a gas station restroom in Brazil and were then forced to pay for the damages. No, this is not an episode of Scandal. The problem here is the Olympic high that people around the world are currently experiencing.

When you’re an Olympic athlete you dedicate your entire life to training for the sport that you compete in. It was amazing to see how excited some of the Olympians were to have pizza after their event. They maintain strict diets and most don’t consume alcohol. Speedo, along with the other brands who have cancelled their deals with the swimmer are overreacting, to say the least.
