In 2003, Viola married former college football player, Julius William Tennon.  He was born on December 24, 1953 in Austin, Texas.  He played linebacker for the University of Tulsa.  Tennon was a star football player but he made history at Tulsa by becoming the first African-American to graduate from the college’s theatre department.Like Davis, Tennon loves acting and has appeared in numerous films.  In 2011, the couple launched JuVee Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company.

Viola Davis was born on August 11, 1965 in St. Matthews, South Carolina.  Two months after she was born, her family moved to Rhode Island.  Her father, Dan Davis trained and groomed horses and her mother, Mary Alice (Logan) was an activist, explaining why Viola uses her fame to change the world.

Davis attended the Juilliard School of Performing Arts and made her Broadway debut in 1996.  In 2001, she won a Tony Award for her role as Tonya in King Hedley II.  In 2017, Davis won an Oscar for her performance in Fences, making her the first African-American actor to complete the triple crown of acting.The “triple crown of acting” is a term used to describe actors who have won a competitive Academy Award, Emmy Award and Tony Award.  Along with the Tony Award Davis won in 2001 and the Oscar she won in 2017, the actress won a Emmy Award in 2015 for her role as Annalise Keatling in How To Get Away With Murder.
