Smith played defensive end helping the New Orleans Saints win Super Bowl XLIV, the organization’s only championship. The incident occurred in New Orlean’s Lower Garden District Saturday night. Smith was rear ended and the collision caused Smith to hit the vehicle in front of him.

The image above shows the driver of the vehicle that hit Smith: Cardell Hayes. After Hayes and Smith exchanged words Hayes, 28, drew a handgun and shot Will Smith several times. Hayes was charged with second-dgree murder.Hayes once sued a retired police officer who shared dinner with Smith shortly before the nigh he was shot and killed. The officer, Capt. William Careavolo was not at the scene and officers are investigating as to whether Smith’s dinner played a part in the motive for the shooting.

Will Smith was married to Racquel Smith, who was also shot yet her injuries are not life threatening. Our thoughts are with Will’s wife and his three children.
