According to The Gangster Report, on the streets of Southwest Detroit, Simon garners just as much respect as Big Meech and Southwest T.

Simon explains that he was on his way to a baseball game in the 1970s, when he happened to meet a man that went by the nickname Dirty Diamond “Dirt” or “Dirk”, it is difficult to make out what Layton says his name was during the interview. Dirty Diamond Dirt had a 20-carat ring on, and Layton asked about it. Layton received information about Harold Stinson after asking about Dirty Diamond Dirt’s ring.

Layton eventually got introduced to Harold, who had a relationship with Walter Cason. These were the drug dealers who supplied their work to the streets before the Flenory brothers, Big Meech and Southwest T.

Layton was 14-years, in the 1970s when he met Harold Stinson and by the time he was 15, he bought a brand new 1973 Cadillac with the money he earning from selling drugs. Harold bought his whole crew Cadillacs and offered to buy one for Layton, but Layton refused to accept one because he wanted to purchase the car on his own.

Lamar discusses Chester Campbell, one of the most infamous hitmen who worked for the Italian mafia and black gangs throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Simon explains that he came up as a drug dealer, under Harold Stinson in the 1970s. Harold’s second in command was his childhood friend, Walter Cason, until Harold and Walter had a falling out. Walter Cason has a nephew named Bobby and Harold Stinson has a sister named Linda. Bobby and Linda got into an argument and Bobby ended up fighting Linda. The small family feud would eventually lead to Harold and Walter falling out and on July 1, 1977, Harold Stinson was murdered.

Layton eventually climbed the latter, becoming one of the drug kingpins in Southwest Detroit. He started hearing about the 50 Boyz crew who were making a name for themselves by selling $50 bags of cocaine on the streets of Detroit in the 1980s. Simon describes how surprised he was when he saw how much cocaine was in one of the bags supplied by the 50 Boyz: “8 balls were $50” Simon explains, “I rule 12th Street.”

Layton’s response to the $50 bags was his “Flintstones” which was an 8 ball of cocaine that he sold for $10. He called the bag Flintstones because the rocks were so big. Big Meech and Southwest T outsmarted Layton, and eventually connected with a police officer named Sam. Once Sam moved into an apartment complex on 12th Street, Layton decided to leave, allowing Big Meech and Southwest T to dominate the market.

In 2014, rappers Psyke Sconi and Bigg Pauliee released the track “OG Layton Simon”:

Simon is seen at the end of the video, discussing someone that he put in a trunk and drugs.
