Denzel Love is the actor who plays Barry on Empire. On the show’s “Cupid Kills” episode we see Barry in a flashback scene with Cookie. Barry is one of Cookie’s first boyfriends. Cookie was dating him before she met Lucious. Unlike Lucious, Barry was a gentleman, similar to Cookie’s current love interest, Angelo Dubois.
Similar to Empire cast members, Samuel Hunt (Xavier Rosen) and Ta’Rhonda Jones (Porsha Taylor), Denzel has appeared on the NBC series Chicago P.D. In 2015 he played Marcus in the show’s “Get Back to Even” episode. We love seeing him alongside Ajiona Alexus who plays the teenage Cookie Lyon:

In “Cupid Kills” Angelo Dubois brings three adorable children to Empire’s headquarters to invite Cookie to a charity event. The kids sing and Porsha tells Cookie that Angelo isn’t Lucious “but I bet he know how to turn up.” Cookie explains that Angelo reminds her of a guy that her father wanted her to marry. The flashback reveals that Barry was the gentleman who received her father’s approval before Lucious came into her life.
