Who Plays The Beast In The New Beauty And The Beast?

Dan Stevens is the actor who plays the Beast in the new Beauty and the Beast movie.  The musical film is scheduled to be released on March 17, 2017.  Stevens is an English actor who is currently 34-years old.  He is best known for his role as Matthew Crawley in Downtown Abbey.  Emma Watson will play Belle in the film.

The original Beauty and the Beast fairy tale was written by French novelist, Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve.  The story was published in 1740.  Walt Disney originally attempted to adapt the fairy tale into a movie in the 1930s.  Disney enjoyed massive success with the 1989 film, The Little Mermaid leading the company to move forward with Beauty and the Beast.

In the original story, the Beast is a princes who lost his father at a very young age.  He wasn’t the selfish individual that Disney portrays him to be.  He refuses to marry his governess so she turns him into a beast.  A fairy promises to turn him back into a human if he can find someone that is willing to love him.

The United States isn’t the only country that loves the story.  Actor, Jackie Chan helped bring the film to China by dubbing the Beast’s voice for the Chinese translation of the movie.  In the video below he performs the film’s title track, “Mandarin” with Sarah Chen:
