Who Threw Out The First Pitch Today? World Series 2016

Hall-of-Famer Billy Williams threw out the first pitch at Game 3 of the 2016 World Series.  The retired MLB left fielder played for the Chicago Cubs from 1959 to 1974 and the Oakland Athletics from 1975 to 1976.  The talented baseball player had 2,711 hits and 426 home runs in his 18-season career.

The 78-year-old was born in Alabama on June 15, 1938.  His father, Frank Williams, was a dock laborer who played for the Whistler Stars, a semipro team.  Billy attended Whistler High School where he played football.  In 1956, Ivy Griffin signed him to his first professional contract.

He began his career with the Ponca City Cubs and debuted with the Chicago Cubs in 1959.  In 1961 he was named the National League Rookie of the Year.  He made the All-Star Game six times in his career and in 1972 he won the National League batting title.

Williams wasn’t the only star at Game 3.  Comedian, Bill Murray sang “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch.  The Chicago native shared the image below to prove how much he loves the team:

This year, the World Series returns to Wrigley Field for the first time since 1945.  The series is currently tied 1 to 1.  The Cleveland Indians are a great team and they’re determined to win.
