People are boycotting Pepsi because of Kendall Jenner’s controversial commercial. Kendall is the first model to receive a major Pepsi ad since Cindy Crawford in 1992. Critics are calling the Pepsi commercial tone deaf
Many are calling the Pepsi commercial tone deaf. The phrase is typically used to describe a person that is not able to recognize different musical pitches. The metaphorical meaning is being used here to explain that Jenner and Pepsi were not able to recognize that the commercial could be perceived as racist.
Kendall and Pepsi will soon be donating a ton of money to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Does the Pepsi ad exploit Black Lives Matter?
Many are comparing Kendall’s visual to the Iesha Evans image. Evans is the woman who approached police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana during a major Black Lives Matter protest. Evans, a nurse, stood her ground. Iesha explains that she is human and she wanted to send the message that we all matter. She felt like black people had to beg to matter and that’s wrong.
