    Fox Baltimore reports that one of the city’s most popular up and coming rappers, Lor Scoota, has passed away after being shot.  Police are calling the incident a “targeted” shooting.

    The rapper was leaving the “Touch The People Pray For Peace in these Streets Charity Basketball Game” when he was shot and killed.  It’s clear that something must be done to stop the violence in the city.  While the charity events are important, we must find a way to get the guns off the street.

    Baltimore is not the only place where gun control has become a serious concern.  The recent events in Orlando also called for change.  How many lives will be lost before something is done?
    The rapper was shot around 7:00 PM while driving on Moravia Road.  The shooter stepped into the street and began shooting at Lor Scoota’s vehicle.  The shoot was last seen wearing a white bandanna.  The rapper passed away a short time after he was transported to the hospital.  
    This is when the Stop Snitching movement gets confusing.  Innocent people are dying because some people aren’t thinking.  How do you stop the haters from killing the future superstars? The following video was taken seconds after the incident took place.  It shows police responding to the shooting:

    The US Federal Reserve decided to raise interest rates last year, pushing up the dollar.  Many investors thought that the Bank of England would do the same to secure the pound but there has been a period of weaker growth, causing investors to reassess the UK outlook.

    US markets are also dropping following the news of the United Kingdom’s exit from the EU.  Walmart is the only stock that is gaining on the Dow Jones.
    What Does The Pound Falling Mean?

    Following the United Kingdom’s referendum vote to leave the EU, the pound fell to levels that have not been seen sine the 1980s.  The fall began overnight as the results of the referendum became clear.  At one point, it dropped to $1.3236, a decrease of more than 10%.

    This matters to you because of the impact it has on the global economy.  Global markets have buckled as the value of the pound decreased to its lowest point in over 30 years.  The value of the pound has been decreasing since the start of 2016.  After the first month of 2016, the value decreased about 4%.
    The decreased makes it the worst performing major currency.  Many investors are looking to gold as a safe haven, considering the fact that the pound is at its lowest point in more than three decades.

  • ‘Empire’ Nominated, Presenting At The 2016 BET Awards

    Sure, it’s summer hiatus, but Empire is still alive and well. The hit Fox TV series is nominated for several BET Awards and several stars are set to make appearances during the ceremony. Empire’s own Taraji P. Henson, Bryshere Gray, and Jussie Smollett will be presenting awards during the event at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, according to a network press release.

    Henson is nominated for an award in the category of Best Actress and she’s up against Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington, Tracie Ellis Ross, and Viola Davis. Pretty tough and talented competition. Gray’s connection to BET is that he’s starring in the network’s upcoming New Edition bio pic TV movie. Ross and actor Anthony Anderson will be hosting the awards show, set to air on Sunday, June 26.

    Other BET Awards presenters this year include DJ Khaled, Gabrielle Union, Tinashe, Fantasia, Regina Hall, Aja Naomi King, Nate Parker, Terrence J, Morris Chestnut, J.B. Smoove, Kimberly Elise, Omar Epps, and many more.

  • Cookie’s Top 10 Furs (Sorry PETA)

    Cookie Lyon’s fur collection is hard to compete with.  The diva’s massive collection includes unique purple pieces along with other fabulous colors.  Cookie’s furs are just about the only thing that can keep up with her personality.

    Cookie sported an all-white fur as she was released from prison in the show’s first episode.  While she has stopped wearing most of the animal print she once stomped around in, Empire’s leading lady has not given up the fur coats that she has worn throughout the show’s first two seasons.

    Many of the furs Taraji P. Henson has worn on the show are borrowed from costume designer Rita McGhee’s mother in law, Janet Bailey.  Bailey was married to Earth, Wind & Fire’s Philip Bailey.  Sporting a dominant fur coat can clash with the personalities of some characters yet it compliments Cookie’s personality perfectly.
    Cookie can be warming when it comes to her sons.  She’s the security blanket they didn’t have for 17 years.  She can also be fierce, similar to some of her most fabulous furs we’ve seen her in.  Lucious is one of the people with the ability to make Cookie show her fierce side.

    When Jazz decided to publicly speak about her transition, her family decided to assume the last name Jennings.  Jazz was assigned male at birth and her parents named her Jared.

    The family wishes to maintain some privacy by not revealing their real last name.  Initially, Jazz’s parents used fake first names: Scott and Renee.  Their real names are Greg and Jeanette.  According to Time, Jennings knew that she was a girl trapped in a boy’s body from the moment that she was able to form coherent thoughts.
    Jazz was born on October 6, 2000 and has one sister and two brothers: Ari, Sander and Griffen.  People reports that the family has come together as they plan for a potentially risky surgery.  
    Her parents have made it clear that she was set on being a female as soon as she was able to speak.  She began her transition at the age of five.  Her show reveals some of the unique experiences she has been through with her family and friends since announcing her transition.
    She’s a massive Caitlyn Jenner fan and she was very excited to meet her at the ESPYs.  The following video shows her when she was 14-years-old.  TMZ caught up with her and she shared her thoughts about Jenner:

    Big Brother fans couldn’t believe it when they saw the alums on the premiere of the show’s 18th season.  Nicole Franzel was one of the familiar faces that fans were shocked to see.

    In the season 18 premiere of Big Brother Nicole explains that she is no longer with Hayden.  Wet Paint explains that the former couple had a slow build to what became the only authentic romantic connection in the house.

    CBS considers their relationship one of Big Brother’s top showmances.  The former couple even earned the nickname Haycole.  The break-up comes as a surprise to many fans who were following the couple on social media.  A month before the show’s premiere, the two were seen in pictures together.  We’re guessing that they’ve decided to remain friends.  
    Nicole isn’t the only former houseguests that has returned to play Big Brother Season 18.  James Huling from Season 17 has returned along with Da’Vonne Rogers.  Frank Eudy from the show’s 14th season has also returned.
    Franzel can’t wait to give this experience another try.  She was evicted from season 16 pretty early on, earning her 7th place.  Season 18 gives the bubbly small town girl an opportunity to redeem herself.  As for her and Hayden, only time will tell!

    Anderson Cooper’s father is Wyatt Emory Cooper.  He was born on September 1, 1927 in Quitman, Mississippi.  Unlike Anderson’s mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, Wyatt was born poor.  His father, Emmet Debro Cooper, was a farmer and he had eight siblings.  Wyatt’s mother, Rixie Jane Annie, was a housewife.

    Similar to Vanderbilt, Wyatt’s family had an impressive history.  His grandmother’s family was the very first to settle in the Virginia Colony.  Wyatt’s granduncle, Jim Bull, was a part of the Confederate army and fought in the Civil War.  
    When Wyatt was young he was a natural storyteller and dreamed to become an actor.  He delivered guest sermons at Quitman’s First Baptist Church when the preacher was away and he loved watching movies.  He would hitch rides into town to see Gone with the Wind and other movies at the town’s movie theater.
    The family had deep southern roots and eventually moved to New Orleans, Louisiana.  In New Orleans, the Cooper family lived in the Ninth ward.  Wyatt attended Francis T. Nicholls High School located at 3820 St. Claude Avenue.  The school was later renamed Frederick Douglass High School and is now a public charter school known as KIPP Renaissance High School.
    Wyatt liked New Orleans much more than Quitman.  He experienced his first opera and ballet in New Orleans and believed the city was much more exotic than Quitman.  Despite his love for New Orleans, the family eventually moved back to Mississippi, settling in the city of Meridian.
    Wyatt’s father, Emmet, wanted his son to pursue a career in politics.  In his twenties, Wyatt decided to move to New York to pursue his acting career.  He landed a few TV commercials and even some minor roles on TV shows.  His acting career never took off so he transitioned to screenwriting.  Wyatt eventually landed a job with 20th Century Fox.

    Desiree Ross is the oldest daughter of a teacher and a realtor.  Lifetime explains that she began asking her parents about acting when she was only three-years-old.  The talented actress was born in May, 1999 in South Carolina.

    The 16-year-old stars in Oprah’s new series, Greenleaf, which is about secrets and lies within a mega-church in Memphis, TN.  The show marks her first series regular role and she was nervous at first.  Digital Journal explains that she was eventually able to overcome her nervousness as she spent more time with the show’s talented cast.

    Deadline reports that she was one of the first actors to be cast in Oprah’s new show.  She plays Grace’s daughter, Sophia, on the show.  The show’s cast also includes Lamman Rucker, Merle Dandridge and Kim Hawthorne.
    Emmy winners Lynn Whitfield and Keith David play Lady Mae and Bishop James on the show.  The show’s first season will include 13-episodes.  The first episode aired on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 and the next two will air on June 22, 2016.
    The show was created by Craig Wright who is also responsible for Lost and Six Feet Under.  The series will follow the Greenleaf family and their scandalous secrets and lies.

    If you watched the season finale of Love And Hip Hop Atlanta we’re sure you have tons of questions.  The most important: Who’s Tiarra’s baby daddy? Is it Scrapp or Stuey Rock aka J Nicks aka Brian Shaw? The father is J Nicks considering the fact that she is 13 weeks pregnant.  Scrapp when to jail before that so he can’t be the baby’s daddy.

    Scrapp Deleon’s real name is William Cortez Robinson.  The rapper brought a tear to our eyes as we watched him receive his sentence on the show’s most recent episode.

    The rapper will serve five years behind bars, the mandatory minimum for the crime he committed.  His mother, Karen King, was very emotional at the sentencing.  The episode reminds us to live our lives to the fullest.  The episode also teaches us to make smart decisions.

    Scrapp mentions his brother, Dolla, during the episode.  It’s great to have someone you care about that you can look to in order to overcome difficult situations.  Although Dolla is gone, Scrapp remembers him and looks to him for strength.

    VH1 reports that the rapper shaved his head for his mugshot.  We are guessing he decided to do so because he does not want to bring any attention to himself while he is behind bars.
    According to Wet Paint, the Judge could have given the rapper 30 years in jail.  There is no amount of money that is worth your freedom.  The rapper will miss priceless moments with his family.  From what we have seen on the show, William is a great father.  Hopefully he’ll be able to maintain a good relationship with his children while he is behind bars.

  • What Does Verified On Tinder Mean?

    AV Club reports that Tinder introduced verified profiles, making it easier to be rejected by celebrities.  The app initially required a Facebook account but the company recently updated that policy.  Many celebrities do not have personal Facebook accounts so Tinder added another route for those individuals to acquire accounts.

    The verification system enables celebrities to create accounts in a new way.  Mobile dating became popular about five years ago.  In 2012, it surpassed online dating.  Vanity Fair reports that people love using the app because it turns their phones into a never-ending singles club.

    According to Engadget, to get verified you have to send an email to verified@tinder.com simply explaining why you’re worthy.  One way to do this is by showing that you’ve been given the same treatment on Instagram or Twitter.

    The company explains that you must be a notable public figure in order to receive the blue check.  Entertainers, celebrities and athletes were mentioned as examples.  The dating app further explains that it’s reviewing verification requests on a case-by-case basis.
    Watch out social media users! Cyberbullying is getting more and more serious everyday and authorities are doing something about it.  Mic reports that an Australian man recently pled guilty to sexist online harassment on the app.
