Darby was born and raised in Maryland and attended the University of Maryland. As an oldest child Darby felt obligated to maintain multiple jobs to help her single mother along with her siblings.

While Ashley attended the Maryland she also bartended. One night at work, Ashley was scouted by the Miss District of Columbia Pageant. Ashley won the pageant in 2011.
