Tyrese Gibson and Empire star Taraji P. Henson forged a close friendship on the set of the 2004 movie Baby Boy and have stayed in close contact since. So close, that fans have started to wonder if the two BFFs will ever date each other. But it sounds like all of their friendly “I love yous” are just that — friendly.

In an interview with Essence Live, Tryese said that their personalities are so big and might clash if they were ever take their friendship to romance. “You know, independent of us being together and being good friends…and I think that she’s very amazing and special,” he said, according to Urban Belle Magazine. “I don’t really know what that chemistry is independent of the movie set and we both have never tried to go there either.”
Tyrese continued: “But it could be interesting. I mean I do love her and I do know her, but she’s got a very big personality and I do too. And I feel like when you get in a relationship, you can cancel each other out. And it has nothing to do with her success versus mine…she’s a Virgo, she’s loud, she’s aggressive. And I’m big, and I’m aggressive and I need a woman that’s got a soft voice, and her voice doesn’t even go above a certain octave.”
While Henson is shooting the rest of Empire Season 2, Tyrese’s new talk show It’s Not You It’s Men, which he’ll co-host with Rev. Run, peremiered this week on the OWN Network.
