Don Brumfield mourns his sister Dominique Flewellen in episode 17 Black Ink Crew Chicago‘s third season. Dominique struggled with mental health issues and in September of 2016, she committed suicide. Flewellen was found in the Chicago River. She was only 24-years-old. Since Dominique’s death, Don has been working hard to promote mental health awareness.
An autopsy showed that Dominique jumped in the river and drowned. Pray for Don Brumfield. The Black Ink Crew Chicago star broke down when he heard about his sister’s death. He witnessed Dominique’s battle with depression for 10 years.
Women are more likely to suffer from depression than men and more than 15 million people in America are depressed. If you are depressed, you should seek professional help as soon as possible. Mental health problems are common yet people tend to ignore them. Many people who suffer from mental health issues are ashamed or in denial. They don’t seek help and the issue only gets worse.

In the Instagram post above, Don explains that he misses Dominique every day. He wishes he could have done more and protected her. Friends and family members can make all the difference in a person’s recovery. People who suffer depression often feel alone and they try to isolate themselves from the rest of the world.
Talk to your loved ones about their mental health as much as you can. Remind them that they’re not alone and let them know that you’re willing to help them get the help they need.
