Don Brumfield’s sister, Dominique passed away on September 3, 2016. At the end of episode 16 of Black Ink Crew Chicago‘s third season, “I Cleared My Truth” we see intense previews for the next episode. Don receives a call from Northwestern Hospital and the person on the phone says, “I’m really sorry.”
Dominique was born on July 25 and suffered from a mental illness, explaining why Don is an advocate for mental health awareness. This season, we saw Don help Cobra through her depression. Cobra is having difficulties believing people and she doesn’t value her friendships. Don tells Cobra that anytime she needs to vent, he’s willing to listen.

In the video at the end of this article, Don discusses Ashley’s high-risk pregnancy and then reveals that his sister has been in the hospital because of her mental illness. I would love to see Don on VH1’s reality competition series Scared Famous. The winner of the competition receives $100,000 for their favorite charity and Don would definitely donate the money to a mental health organization.

Don explains that his sister’s mental health issues began when she was 14. She wanted to come home from the hospital but Don didn’t think she was ready. When she was younger, Dominique would go in and out of phases. Shortly before she died, Don explained that she was in the worst phase he has ever seen her in.
If don’s sister passes in the next episode I will cry 😣 #BlackInkCrewCHI— rare . (@RemyLikeTheHair) November 23, 2017
Don explains that some days he didn’t even know if he was looking at his little sister. He was scared that she would hurt herself. Cobra explains that she can relate to Don’s sister. Don and Cobra remind us that listening is often the only thing needed to help someone.
