Empire Episode Recap: “Poor Yorick” Season 2, Episode 4

Mallory Carra | Entertainment

This week episode of Empire opens with the FBI dramatically storming into Empire Entertainment and then Lyon Dynasty, seizing computers, paperwork and stabbing pillows. Just like in the movies. It takes both companies by surprise — the raid interrupts Jamal’s big interview for the cover of Rolling Stone, as well as Lucious and Thirsty’s hangover after a wild night with some ladies, because they’re on that level now.

Lucious declares to Empire and his family that the FBI has nothing on them and they need to find Vernon — naturally, Andre panics. Cookie and Lucious attempt to work the whole radio issue out, but the meeting devolves into biting banter about them being soon-to-be grandparents. Andre pledges to Lucious that he can fix all of this (as his way back into Empire), but he also continues to remind Lucious of his own mother’s illness — in a flashback, we learn that Child Protective Services wanted to take Lucious/Dwight away from his mother.

Tensions rise for the Lyons at the music video shoot for “Ain’t About The Money.” The Rolling Stone photographer (who is totally in love with Jamal) unveils a very Jimi Hendrix-looking photo/art of Jamal, which Lucious praises and makes Hakeem jealous enough to stab with a knife. Ouch. Oh, that’s not all — Hakeem and Jamal literally get into a fight during the shoot and Hakeem storms off. Cookie gets arrested for false reasons and brought to jail, where Roxanne the prosecutor attempts to blackmail her, but Cookie makes the Apex radio deal sound like some kind of juicy tip and it’s enough to set her free. She’s quite the smart cookie (ahem).

Andre and Rhonda take a road trip into American Horror Story and How To Get Away With Murder when they decide to DIG UP VERNON’S BODY. What? In the forest, they encounter Lucious himself and new BFF Thirsty, because the mogul knows all — and installed a tracking device on their car. They confess to the murder and Lucious has never been prouder of the two of them, in such a Lucious moment. As Hakeem drowns his sorrow at a bar, he hears the beautiful voice of a female singer — and probably the future Beyonce of his girl group. Meanwhile, Jamal and the Rolling Stone photographer post Jamal’s face all over a wall and Michael is both fully aware of the apparent narcissism and the photographer’s moves on Jamal.

Back in the How to Get Away With Murder forest, Andre has finally won his father’s approval and a spot back at Empire. But Cookie will never approve of Anika, and tells her so once she’s released from blackmail jail. BURN!
