‘Empire’ Star Jussie Smollett Reacts To The July Shootings

As you saw in the last post, Taraji P. Henson had a passionate response to last week’s heartbreaking tragedies. Her co-star Jussie Smollett also had much to say about the deaths of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and many Dallas police officers. Sterling and Castile were shot and killed by police officers, while the Dallas police officers were killed by a sniper at a Black Lives Matter protest.

I gotta pause. When you can’t even keep up with hashtags. When you have to search for names of fallen bodies. When you are sick and your illness is the very nation in which you were born. When peace becomes more and more difficult to attain. When “black lives” NOT mattering becomes “all lives” mattering, only to further show that “all lives” just means…white. What are we doing? What is this nation representing to the rest of the world? Some may say it sounds unpatriotic but once we stop allowing our “patriotism” to blind us from just how fucked up we really are… Only then, will change ever come. #RIP #PhilandoCastile #StandTogether
