Essence Atkins is the actress who plays Ashley Wayne in NBC’s new series Marlon.  The beautiful actress has lost weight and she’s looking better than ever.  Many people mistake Essence for Tia and Tamera and think she has a sister.  Atkins does not have a sister.  You most likely remember Essence from the WB series Smart Guy.

Atkins played T.J. Henderson’s (Tahj Mowry) older sister, Tasha Yvette Henderson on Smart Guy.  She also played Rachel True’s half-sister, Dee Dee Thorne in Half and Half.  Essence is now a veteran.  She was born on February 7, 1972 and has been acting since 1986.  The talented actress can be seen on Wednesday nights alongside Marlon Wayans.

Marlon isn’t the first time Essence has worked with Marlon Wayans.  In 2013 and 2014 she appeared in Marlon’s parody movies A Haunted House and A Haunted House 2.

In Marlon, Atkins plays Marlon’s ex-wife, Ashley Wayne.  They’re divorced yet still living together, making their lives very complicated.  Ashley has moved on but Marlon is still in love with her.  In the first episode, Ashley tries to help Marlon let go of the past, including his old 8 ball jacket.
