The New York Times reports that Gabrielle Christina Victoria “Gabby” Douglas is in Rio despite a disappointing Olympic trials. The reigning Olympic all-around champion is known to peak at just the right time. The 20-year-old earned two gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics and she’s looking to add more to her collection.
According to Success, back in 2012, the 16-year-old almost skipped the games to take a job at Chick-fil-A. Make sure you’re following her and the rest of the Team U.S.A. athletes on Snapchat! Gabby Douglas’ Snapchat username is GabbyDoug:

When Gabrielle was 16-years-old she told her mother that she was giving up gymnastics. The Virginia native had been training in Iowa for over a year. She moved there to pursue her dream to compete in the Olympics. The “Flying Squirrel” missed her family who she left back home in Virginia.
Her mother started crying after Gabrielle revealed that she wanted to work at Chick-fil-A in Virginia and give up on her dream to compete in the Olympics. When Gabrielle informed her siblings of her plans to quit they responded with disapproval. The gold medalist credits her family for their unconditional support and guidance. We can’t wait to see her compete in Rio!
