Hidden Figures Reviews

Could Cookie Lyon be nominated for an Oscar? It wouldn’t be Henson’s first Oscar nod — she was nominated for her work in 2009’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Here’s what critics are saying about Henson in Hidden Figures:

  • “Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe serve both history and the demands of popular entertainment with serious performances that also have a good sense of humour.” – Toronto Star
  • “Henson activates every scene she’s in, and her byplay with Moonlight standout Mahershala Ali, who plays her dreamy suitor, is as sweet as pie. Do we believe the relationship as presented? Sort of, sort of not, but the actors find their own truth.” – Chicago Tribune
  • “Henson brims with hurt, disappointment, and willful purpose, a woman who’s as proud of her country’s space program as any of the white dudes are, and who knows she has a contribution to make. Of the leads, she’s given the most room to build a character, with scenes of motherhood and an abbreviated romance with a smitten veteran (Moonlight‘s Mahershala Ali).” – The Village Voice
  • “Katherine Goble is the central hidden figure, a mathematical prodigy played with perfect nerd charisma by Taraji P. Henson.” – New York Times
  • Henson gives Katherine a shy demure nature yet also a true fire when she’s had enough with the prejudiced establishment.” – USA Today
