Abedi Pele is alive. The rumor that he is dead is false. The false reports claimed that the legendary athlete passed away in France on Friday, August 30, 2016. In a recent interview Pele explains that the story was a hoax. The 51-year-old’s son, Andre Ayew, also confirmed that his father is alive. Ayew plays for West Ham United.
The former Ghanaian footballer was born on November 5, 1964 and is currently 51-years-old. The talented midfielder was the captain of the Ghana national team. From 1988 to 1993 he dominated the game, establishing himself as one of the best African soccer players of all-time. Samuel Eto’o is a Cameroonian player who is arguably the greatest African footballer of all-time. He currently plays striker for the Turkish team Antalyaspor. He won the African Player of the Year award three consecutive time in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He won the award for a record-breaking fourth time in 2010.
George Weah is another former player who many consider the best African footballer of all-time. He is a Liberian who played striker similar to Eto’o. While Eto’o was named African Player of the Year four times Weah won the award three times: 1989, 1994 and 1995. Pele also won the award three times: 1991, 1992 and 1993.
