Is Caster Semenya Transgender?

Deadspin reports that the Mokgadi Caster Semenya gender debate has resurfaced.  In 2009 she dusted the competition, leading many to argue that she was actually a man.  Eventually an Australian paper explained that the 25-year-old had internal testes and no womb.  The report also explained that she had higher testosterone levels than normal female athletes.

According to Eyewitness News the Olympian surged from behind to win her 800m race during the 2016 Rio Olympics.  It was almost as if she was playing with her competition.  Her family insists that she was born a female yet many argue that she is intersex, born with male and female genitalia.

Caster Semenya Transgender

After every race she competes in, people around the world wonder if she’s transgender.  While Olympians like Katie Ledecky have been included in recent rumors about being transgender, Semenya’s situation is more severe.  Her physical appearance has led people to conclude that there’s no way that she can be a female.

The future will be interesting for the South African runner.  She’s not transgender but she does have a higher testosterone level than most female athletes which could eventually lead to be disqualified from future competitions.  The transgender issue has never been as serious as it currently is and our society must adapt quickly to maintain human rights.
