No, Cookie Lyon is not leaving Empire.  She had a heart attack but she will be fine. In episode 11 of season 4, “Without Apology” we see her suffer a health scare.  Her and Lucious are discussing Andre and all of a sudden Cookie faints and is unable to catch her breath.

Henson makes it clear that she’s not leaving Empire.  Henson explains how difficult it is to be on a hit TV show in this day and age.  It’s easy to take Empire for granted now that it has been on for a couple season.  Who can forget the show’s record-breaking first season? Why would Taraji leave one of the most successful TV shows of all-time?

Television shows come and go these days and Empire‘s success is rare.  Black television shows are making a comeback but it’s difficult to keep them on air.  Being Mary Jane was a great series with tons of fans but it was cancelled.

Last year, Sanaa Lathan’s Shots Fired was cancelled by Fox.  The series had a poor ratings average yet it was the 7th most watched scripted TV series for the 2016-17 season.  In the words of Taraji P. Henson: It’s hard out here for a pimp!
