Is Katie Ledecky Transgender?

Business Insider reports that Kathleen Genevieve “Katie” Ledecky made magic happen once again.  On Wednesday, August 11, 2016, she helped the U.S. 800-meter freestyle relay team defeat Australia to win the gold medal.  The 19-year-old was born in Washington, D.C. but resides in Maryland, similar to another Olympian who has been dominating in Rio: Michael Phelps.

According to The New York Times the U.S. team was trailing by 89-hundredths of a second when Katie hit the water and brought the team back.  She put her #PhelpsFace on as she glided through the pool.  In an attempt to distract Phelps, people have been spreading rumors about him dating a transgender model.  Now that Katie is dominating, a rumor about her being transgender is going viral.

Katie Ledecky Transgender

Ledecky was born a female and is still a female.  She is not transgender.  The Harvard Crimson explains that transgender swimmer, Schuyler Bailar, was once on the same team as Ledecky.  The false stories prove that it is impossible to get big things done if you let small things distract you.  If the Maryland swimmers let the false stories bother them, there’s no way that they would be able to stay focused and accomplish their goals.
The intent of the stories is to get the Olympic athletes to say something inappropriate about the transgender community.  People are very proud of their countries and they would do anything to see their national teams win in Rio.  The story is nothing more than a lie created to distract the Olympic gold medalist.
