Fox proved how dedicated it was to diversity by introducing the world to Empire but the company has supported African American entertainers since the 1950s. In 1953, the company began a nationwide search for an all-black cast for the film Carmen Jones.
The role made Dorothy one of Hollywood’s first black sex symbols. The musical film would go on to generate over $10 million.
