Jermaine Dupri was born on September 23, 1972 in Asheville, North Carolina.  His father, Michael Mauldin, was a tour manager who worked with numerous artists including Earth, Wind & Fire and Luther Vandross.  Michael is currently the CEO of Scream Nation, a joint venture with Live Nation.

1993-2016

In 1993, Dupri established So So Def Recordings.  He had experience developing artists, discovering Kris Kross a few years before he founded So So Def.  He now had his own label and needed to start building his roster.  Xscape became the first group he signed.  The group was an instant success and a year later, Dupri signed Da Brat.

Xscape and Da Brat’s debut albums went platinum.  Jermaine went on to work with some of the most popular artists in the world including Mariah Carey, Jay Z and Usher.  Dupri is one of the best producers of all-time and he has the hits to prove it.

In 1998, Dupri signed Bow Wow and helped him achieve massive success as one of the youngest rappers in the industry.  Jermaine has also produced hits for TLC, Janet Jackson, Migos and more.

2017-Present

Jermaine Dupri is now focused on developing young talent.  Some of the best young rappers on the planet have appeared on his reality competition series, The Rap Game.  At the end of each season, Dupri signs the winner of the competition to So So Def.
