Phi Beta Sigma, Transgender Member Accepted

Media Take Out reports that the African American fraternity Phi Beta Sigma is allowing a transgender to pledge for the first time ever.  As expected, some of the fraternity’s members do not agree with the decision.
The individual was born with female genitalia and is pledging a Graduate Chapter located in Washington, D.C. Some members of the fraternity are attempting to start a campaign to block the person from becoming a member.

The fraternity was founded at Howard University in 1914.  The founding brothers wanted to create a fraternity that exemplified the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship and service.

We all have a story and we shouldn’t judge people before we truly know them.  The fraternity is showing that it looks inside people’s hearts as opposed to judging them and the decisions they have made.
CBS reports that a transgender student at Boston’s Emerson College was surprised to find out that his fraternity raised money for him to undergo his sex change surgery.  The 20-year-old planned to use the money to remove his breasts.  The operation was a double incision which would remove the individual’s breast tissue.
A person’s body does not define who they are.  Support transgender equality.  Don’t judge people that you don’t know.
