Tammie Jo Shults was one of the first female pilots in the Navy and one of the first women to fly the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. That explains why she was able to maintain her cool during the emergency.
Jennifer Riordan Was Nearly Sucked Out Of The Plane
Jennifer Riordan was an executive at Wells Fargo in New Mexico. Sadly, she passed away due to injuries she suffered on Southwest Flight 1380. Fortune reports that Riordan’s death is the first fatality on a U.S. airline in 9 years.
Riordan was sitting next to a window that blew open after the engine exploded. Her arms and some of her body was sucked out the window and she was nearly sucked out the aircraft. Passengers sitting behind her grabbed her legs and pulled her back on the plane.
