Tammie Jo Shults, Jennifer Riordan – Southwest Pilot Flight 1380

Tammie Jo Shults was the pilot of Southwest Airlines flight 1380 who heroically landed the plane.  Mashable reports that the plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a piece of the left engine exploded and shattered a window.

How was Shults able to remain so calm? Her military training probably helped her out.  Shults save many lives thanks to her nerves of steel.

Tammie Jo Shults was one of the first female pilots in the Navy and one of the first women to fly the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet.  That explains why she was able to maintain her cool during the emergency.

Jennifer Riordan Was Nearly Sucked Out Of The Plane

Jennifer Riordan was an executive at Wells Fargo in New Mexico.  Sadly, she passed away due to injuries she suffered on Southwest Flight 1380.  Fortune reports that Riordan’s death is the first fatality on a U.S. airline in 9 years.

Riordan was sitting next to a window that blew open after the engine exploded.  Her arms and some of her body was sucked out the window and she was nearly sucked out the aircraft.  Passengers sitting behind her grabbed her legs and pulled her back on the plane.

Riordan was 43 and has two children.  The following pic shows her and her beautiful family:
