Josh Gordon has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL’s policies on performance-enhancing drugs. In the Uninterrupted interview below, Gordon reveals that he has used the following drugs:
- Xanax (“many occasions”)
- Cocaine (“several occasions”)
- Marijuana (“most of my life”)
- Codeine, cough syrup, promethazine (“very prevalent from where I’m from, you know, it’s what I grew up using”)
In the interview, Gordon also mentions his alcohol use and explains that he’s been enabled by coaches, teachers, professors and numerous others that were willing to give him a second chance because of his talent.
Seattle Seahawks’ coach Pete Carroll explained that there were no signs of relapse and wished Gordon the best. Carroll sounds like many of the enablers Gordon describes in the video above.
Houston, Texas, where Gordon was born and raised, is classified by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a HIDTA which stands for High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.
Houston’s lean culture is addicted to the drugs he continues to get suspended for. Songs like “Sippin’ On Some Sizzurp” by Three Six Mafia and UGK are anthems in the South that represent reality for many like Josh Gordon. Despite the deaths of legends like Pimp C and DJ Screw, drug use in Houston continues to be celebrated.
