The new year is almost upon us, but sadly, we still have to wait until March 2017 for the next new episode of Empire. But don’t worry, there are plenty of projects where you can see the Empire stars as new characters in a new environment. Sure, it’s not the same as having the Lyon family back, but it should make the hiatus easier to take.

The actress is poised to make a run at an Oscar nomination with her stellar turn as NASA scientist Katherine Johnson along side Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe in this inspiring movie based on a true story. The movie has premiered in some cities on Christmas for Oscar consideration and will open in theaters across the country on Jan. 6.

Bryshere Gray

At long last, the actor/musician’s The New Edition Story on BET will premiere on Jan. 24. The TV movie will chronicle the rise and fall of the iconic male singing group of the 1980s.  Gray plays Mike Bivins in the movie.

Jussie Smollett

The actor/singer can be seen as Langston Hughes in the upcoming movie Marshall. He has a role in the next Alien movie, called Alien: Covenant. Smollett will star opposite Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, among others. The movie is set to be released in May 2017.

The singer/actress has a role in the movie Burning Sands, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and later be released on Netflix in March 2017. The film also stars Trevor Jackson, Alfre Woodard, Steve Harris, Tosin Cole, DeRon Horton and Trevante Rhodes.
