Empire’s “Death Will Have His Day” episode solidified why I love the show.  Everything was insane, which is to say that everything was flawless.  Here’s the top 10 moments from Empire’s midseason premiere:

10. Hakeem tells Jamal how much he loves Laura

Hakeem is a lady’s man so it’s awkward hearing him express his love for Laura.  After the youngest Lyon has a sip, or two, he tells Jamal that Laura is special.  Hakeem is in love!
9. Thirsty lets Lucious know that he’s down

Thirsty continues to prove that he, not God, is the inspiration behind the “Footprints in the Sand.” The episode begins with Thirsty showing, not telling, Lucious that he is all the way down!

8. Anika visits Rhonda

While we still don’t know #WhoPushedRhonda Anika’s visit felt like a slap in the face.  Those red bottoms looked like a pair of shoes Lucious’ former love interest would own.

7. “Yes Hakeem, please.”

Hakeem may be with Yoko and have his first child on the way but his heart belongs to Laura.  The beginning of the episode showed a drunk Hakeem acting the fool yet he made things right on his visit to Laura’s house.

6. Andre breaks down

Will Andre Lyon ever get a break? From his disorder in the show’s first season to losing his unborn child in Empire’s last episode…we have to pray for Cookie and Lucious’ oldest son.

5. “Boy we are Lyons, music first!”

What was life like before Cookie Lyon? Another Empire episode means another collection of perfect Cookie quotes.

4. “Bitch you gonna have to drag me out”

Did you think Lucious was gonna let Camilla take his company without putting up a fight? The former CEO makes it clear to Yoko that this battle is just getting started.

3. Jamal performs “Freedom”

Can Jamal Lyon drop anymore instant classics!? We were excited to see him perform one of his unforgettable tracks but we were definitely satisfied with his new song “Freedom”!

2. Cookie loves that broom LOL!

Cookie expresses her love for Hakeem is an untraditional manner.  Her youngest son doesn’t listen so Cookie is constantly trying to clean his ears out with her secret weapon, the broom!
