    Top 10 Black Owned Websites

Many young black entrepreneurs have started successful websites.  As the digital age continues to expand through amazing innovation we believe that the richest black people in America will generate most of their income online in the future.

A list of the richest black people in America does not include many African Americans who have generated a majority of their income online.  With many African American households lacking computers and high-speed internet, the digital divide is certainly alive.  This list of black owned businesses represents an opportunity for aspiring young black entrepreneurs that wish to make their digital mark by starting a website.

Black news sites tend to be most successful in the form of gossip sites according to this list.  This means there is an opportunity for a black owned site to deliver news in a manner that will lead the website to a spot on this list.  While the Huffington Post, Black Voices is one of the most successful black news sites on the net, the website is not black owned therefore it did not make this list.

With websites like Google being ranked one of the most profitable businesses in the world, there will soon be a day when this list of black owned businesses includes one of the most profitable organizations worldwide.  This list of most popular websites 2015 uses Alexa.com’s rankings.

Here is our list of the most popular websites 2015 all of which are black owned.

Last week’s episode of Empire had viewers wondering many things: Just how nutso is Ainka right now? Is Rhonda’s baby bump ever going to show up? And most of all: What on earth is Cookie Lyon’s real first name?

    Cookie Lyon Real Name
    Cookie Lyon Real Name

In the final moments of “My Bad Parts,” Vivica A. Fox showed up as Cookie’s sister Candace by shouting “Loretha!” throughout the after-party.

And Loretha is actually Cookie’s given name. According to several sources around the internet, her maiden name is Holloway. According to eBabyNames, Loretha comes from the word “laurel,” and “In ancient Rome, a crown of laurel leaves was given to victors as a sign of their achievement.” It sounds like Cookie, ahem Loretha was always meant to be queen of an empire.

So how did Loretha Holloway get the nickname Cookie? Loretha and Cookie don’t seem to have any immediate connection. Was Cookie obsessed with cookies like Cookie Monster from Sesame Street? (I wouldn’t blame her — they are yummy.) Was there a childhood mishap that tied Loretha with cookies/the nickname Cookie forever? Was Cookie her stage name? Perhaps family members thought she was one “tough cookie.” And maybe Cookie was not into being named Loretha at all.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we do find out the origin of Cookie’s nickname this season. “My Bad Parts” gave us the origin of the surname “Lyon,” which Lucious picked for himself when he decided to abandon his former name: Dwight Walker. “Lyon” was a sign he slept under when he was sleeping on the streets as a homeless young boy.

In the show’s most recent episode, ‘My Bad Parts‘ Pepsi named Smollett music’s new icon, featuring him in an amazing commercial.  Smollett will perform his track ‘Ready to Go’ on next week’s episode of the Empire TV show.

‘Ready to Go’ was produced by Swizz Beatz and we’ll see Smollett perform it in a new Pepsi commercial.  The commercial was directed by Lee Daniels and will begin airing as a standalone after the show’s midseason finale on December 2, 2015.

Pepsi is no stranger to hip-hop and R&B.  Smollett follows in Michael Jackson’s footsteps as the King of Pop was also sponsored by Pepsi.

In addition, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Mary J. Blige were sponsored by Pepsi.  Here is one of the company’s most entertaining commercials, featuring Diddy in his Diet Pepsi truck:

This week’s episode of Empire left off on many surprising notes, one especially being Anika “Boo Boo Kitty” going Boo Boo Crazy. Perhaps it’s due to a number of things: Anika got dumped by Lucious Lyon and starting sleeping with Hakeem as revenge, but now he’s in love with Laura and Anika is pregnant with his baby.

Let’s rate the levels of crazy from the episode “My Bad Parts” on the scale of Boo Boo Sane to Boo Boo Insanity.

    via GIPHY

The Piles of Pregnancy Tests & The Knife: Anika didn’t just take one pregnancy test — she took a whole bunch, while armed with a big ol’ knife. Why? She held it against herself and used to open another pregnancy test box. I don’t even know what else she wanted to use it for. RATING: Boo Boo Crazy

    via GIPHY

Smoothies With Rhonda: Anika runs into Rhonda while going to get a soul-cleansing smoothie and the also-pregnant Rhonda joins her. While sipping on smoothies, Rhonda confesses that her pregnancy (which still isn’t showing!) has gotten her brownie points with Lucious. Anika likes the sound of using her baby to get back with — or at — Lucious Lyon. RATING: Boo Boo Semi-Sane

    via GIPHY
Not Telling Hakeem: Anika had her chance to tell Hakeem about his baby. She had his ear, but instead, she decided to hold back once she learned Hakeem was in love with Laura. RATING: Boo Boo Weird

    via GIPHY

Blonde Wig Uber Driver: Hakeem unknowingly sends off poor Laura in a taxi driven by Anika in a blonde wig — and Anika’s got a crazy glint in her eye, even as a blonde. What is she going to do with Hakeem’s new star? Will the knife be involved? I can’t wait to find out. RATING: Boo Boo Insanity

  • Raquel Castro The Voice of Lyon Dynasty

Raquel Castro The Voice of Lyon Dynasty
While fans can’t wait to see Alicia Keys on Empire, there are members of the show’s amazing cast that do a wonderful job week-after-week yet they do not receive the recognition they deserve.

Follow Raquel Castro on Twitter: @RaquelCastro

One such cast member is Raquel Castro. The Voice is where many people will remember Castro from and she also played the daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in the 2004 film Jersey Girl.  The actress, singer and songwriter won the Young Artist Award for the Best Performance in a Feature Film – Young Actress Age Ten or Younger, for her role in the film.

As one of the original member of Mirage a Trois, Castro has Cookie’s stamp of approval and has been working hard throughout Empire’s second season.  Castro was featured alongside Yazz, Jamila Velazquez and Yani Marin on the song Runnin’ that will appear on the Empire Season 2 Soundtrack, which released today.

Castro was born on November 17, 1994 in Long Island, New York.  Castro recently dropped the track Young & Dumb and a cover of Adele’s ‘Hello’, further proving just how much talent the cast of Empire is made up of.

Alicia Keys on Empire stole the headlines after Empire fans were introduced to Skye Summers.  Along with Alicia Keys, Vivica Fox’s Empire appearance has been highly publicized as Lee Daniels’ beautiful creation simply refuses to be overshadowed.

    Freda Hakeem Freestyle Battle

“Sometimes the only way to get someone’s attention is to hit them in the head with a sledgehammer,” says Lucious, starting this week’s episode with a literal bang at a Freda Gatz show, telling bloggers to send this message to his son Hakeem in a song that calls him “Daddy’s Little Girl.” Ouch. News of the performance interrupts Hakeem’s romantic bliss with Laura, who reveals she’s a virgin.

On Periscope, Hakeem declares war — erm, (rap) battle — on Freda Gatz for his last name. Cookie and Laz don’t want Hakeem to do battle because of what Lyon Dynasty could lose if he does, which leads to some shoving and Cookie slapping Laz for even daring to lay a hand on her youngest son. In a sweet scene, Jamal and Hakeem eat chips and encourage each other with regard to their respective projects.

Jamal is a candidate to work with Pepsi, but he needs a kick ass song in order to be picked. Naturally, he turns to Cookie again to help him with the song. While they’re working together, Lucious visits and sees Cookie’s jacket, but Jamal shrugs it off. Then Hakeem catches Cookie video chatting with Jamal and he gets insecure about his mother’s love. Jamal tries to get Lucious and Cookie to work on the song together with him — but all they do is argue and take bets on the rap battle.

At the Pepsi showcase, Cookie and Lucious argue some more, but Jamal wants none of it. He sings a song that combines both Cookie and Lucious’ ideas. Pepsi loves the song and Jamal tells Cookie and Lucious that he wants both of them to produce his album — but who releases it depends on the outcome of the rap battle.

Andre and Mimi butt heads about how to approach the Jago streaming deal, and Andre compares it to how Lucious is handling Hakeem’s rap battle with Freda. Lucious insists that Empire needs to start being aggressive. Finally, Lucious signs the Jago deal, declaring that he’ll own the world one day. Spoken like a true mogul.

Meanwhile, Anika is going Boo Boo Crazy, holding a knife in one hand and a positive pregnancy test in the other. Actually, she’s taken a bunch of them — all positive. Rhonda and Anika randomly get Boo Boo Smoothies together and Rhonda reveals that her pregnancy has gotten her lots of favor with Lucious — and a Boo Boo Light Bulb goes off in her brain. She visits Hakeem, who Boo Boo Dumped because he says he’s in love with Laura (didn’t I predict this a few weeks ago?), and she decides not to tell him.

Time for the rap battle! It has their names in lights and everything. The crowd loves both Freda and Hakeem. After some powerful verses, Hakeem destroys his last name in lights with the mic stand and announces that he’s dropping the Lyon name. This provokes Lucious to have a flashback of him as a child sleeping on the streets. The crowd declares that “Hakeem No Lyon” won the battle.

As Cookie and Hakeem celebrate, Cookie’s sister Candace shows up looking for Loretha, which I’m guessing is Cookie’s legal name. Candace tells Cookie that their sister Carol is on a drug bender and left her kids with Candace. And so Cookie and Candace are off to Philly!

Hakeem sends Laura home in an Uber…driven by Anika in a blonde wig, getting her Boo Boo Crazy on. I wonder where she’ll take poor Laura…
