In 2001, Dave Chappelle married Elaine Mendoza Erfe.  They have three kids, two sons named Sulayman and Ibrahim and a daughter named Sonal.  Chappelle recently broke the Internet thanks to the release of his Netflix specials, Equanimity and The Bird Revelation.  Chappelle earned $60 million for the comedy specials.

 

Dave Chappelle mastered the art of controversy from 2003 to 2006 on his Comedy Central series Chappelle’s Show.  He covered sensitive topics like race and sexuality but forced fans to laugh through his hilarious skits.  In 2005, Chappelle decided to leave his show to spend time with his family.

Elaine Mendoza Erfe was born on August 31, 1974.  She is from the Philippines but grew up in New York City, where Chappelle moved to pursue a career as a comedian.  Dave converted to Islam before they got married but Elaine is a Christian and refused to convert.

Dave and Elaine got married in 2001 and currently live on a farm in Yellow Springs, Ohio.  Elaine loves cooking.  When she was younger, she wanted to be a chef.  She currently manages the family’s real estate business.  They own several rental properties in Ohio.

Chappelle is originally from Washington, D.C. and Elaine is from New York City but they’re no longer living the fast-paced city life.  Yellow Springs is a quiet small town surrounded by farms and fields.

Dave Chappelle’s second child is his son Ibrahim which is Arabic for Abraham, the father of faith.  Chapelle includes stories about his kids in his standup routines.  In one of his classic jokes he explains that his son made him a macaroni necklace which made Dave start crying.  His son asked him why he was crying and Dave responded: “You use to live in my balls man.  Now you making jewelry out of macaroni!”

Dave and Elaine’s daughter, Sonal was born in 2009.  The picture above is from Dave and Sonal’s 2016 appearance on Saturday Night Live.  In the skit, Sonal explains that her father taught her that Donald Trump will stop and frisk her black cat:

In 2016, Netflix announced that they would release multiple comedy specials featuring Dave Chappelle.  The comedian made $20 million per special.  Chappelle originally agreed to do 3 specials but then he added a fourth.  That’s $80 million!
