Fredo Santana rose to fame alongside his cousin, Chief Keef.  In his 2012 hit song “I Don’t Like” Keef proclaims “Fredo in the cut, that’s a scary sight.” Santana is the Fredo that Keef was referring to.  Fredo and Keef played major roles in the rise of Chicago’s drill movement.  Sadly, Fredo Santana died on Friday, January 19, 2018.

Fredo Santana was born Derrick Coleman on July 4, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois.  Five years later, his cousin Keith Cozart better known as Chief Keef was born.  Santana and Keef’s grandmother’s are sisters.  Santana and Tavares Taylor aka Lil Reese met in kindergarten.  Reese was featured on Keef’s hit song “I Don’t Like.” Santana grew up poor and when he was 12-years-old he started selling crack.

While Santana was selling drugs in Chicago, Keef was gaining recognition as a talented rapper.  In 2012, Keef released “I Don’t Like” and the song changed his life.  Keef signed with Interscope Records and established a label imprint: Glory Boyz Entertainment (GBE) which was co-founded by Santana.
In 2012, Fredo released his debut mixtape, It’s A Scary Site.  A year later he released his second mixtape Fredo Kuger.  He then dropped his debut album Trappin Ain’t Dead.  Santana didn’t stop there.  In 2013 he also released Scary Site 2.  In 2014 he dropped Walking Legend.  Fredo’s last mixtape, Fredo Kuger 2 was released in 2017.

On Friday, January 19, 2018, Fredo Santana’s girlfriend found him dead at his house in Reseda, Los Angeles.  An autopsy is pending but many believe that he suffered a fatal seizure.  Last year, Fredo revealed that he suffered multiple seizures and was trying to quit abusing drugs.  The pic above shows the rapper in the hospital being treated for kidney and liver failure.

Fredo left us with unforgettable memories.  He’s gone but he’ll be watching over his son who is currently 8-months-old.
